NAICOM has Thursday 22, February 2007 announced   the successful recapitalization of IGI, following the compulsory Federal Government of Nigeria directive to all insurance companies.

IGI has been issued the required approval to continue both Life and Non-life insurance businesses in Nigeria.

Out of the so many insurance companies that started the recapitalization process, only fifteen (15) have been pronounced as at today, to have met the requirements. There has also been only one (1) re-insurance company that met the new requirements.
