General Dr. Yakubu Gowon, GCFR, Ph.D, PSC, JSSC

General Dr. Gowon has been the Chairman of the Board of IGI since its inception and currently leads a board of 10 members that lends its skill and years of experience to directing the strategy of the Company. He was Nigeria's Head of State and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces from 1966 to 1975. 
With a doctorate degree in Political Science, he has spent the past three decades providing leadership for projects designed to promote peace and progress in Nigeria and internationally. 
He is the President and Chairman, Board of Trustees of Yakubu Gowon Centre, Abuja, a nongovernmental organization set up to promote the cause of Nigerian unity, nation-building, national integration and conflict resolution through dialogue and involvement in Humanitarian organisations and projects.
A recipient of the national honour, Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR), General Dr. Gowon is the initiator of the "Nigeria Prays" project, which is a vehicle for promoting peace and canvassing for spiritual and moral rebirth in the country.

Mr. Rotimi Fashola
Managing Director


A chartered insurer and a seasoned marketing expert, Mr. Fashola holds an MBA in Marketing from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. With over 30 years experience and a remarkable track record in the insurance and financial services industry, Fashola has earned a reputation as a truly accomplished and highly respected professional. Between 1991 and 1993, he was the General Manager/Chief Executive Officer of Liberty Assurance Company Limited. He later joined Industrial And General Insurance Plc where he reengineered the company’s marketing unit to achieve maximum efficiency that placed IGI ahead of competition. Having served in various top management capacities, Mr. Fashola was appointed to the board in 1999 as Executive Director, Marketing. Prior to his appointment as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, he served as the Deputy Managing Director from 2007 to 2014 and later acting managing director.

He is a Fellow of numerous institutions, including the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN), Institute of Directors (IOD), Institute of Direct Marketing (IDM) and the West African Insurance Institute (WAII), The Gambia. He is an Associate of Chartered Insurance Institute of London (ACII) and the Chartered Institute of Arbitration, (ACI Arb) (London). Mr. Fashola is an alumnus of both the West African College of Insurance and Risk Management in The Gambia and the Global Institute for Leadership Development (GILD), United States.  He is a member of the Governing Council of WAII and the West African Insurance Companies Association (WAICA).

He currently serves on the Board of many companies both local and abroad, including WAICA Reinsurance Corporation Plc, Sierra Leone; National Insurance Corporation (NIC), Uganda; IGI Gamstar Insurance Limited, The Gambia; Global Trust Savings and Loans Limited; Investment Profiles Limited; IGI Pension Fund Managers Limited; Sonarwa Holdings, Rwanda; and Sonarwa Life Insurance Company, also in Rwanda.


Apostle Hayford I. Alile, OFR


A founding member of the IGI Board of Directors, Apostle Alile was a Director of the Central Bank of Nigeria (1999-2005). After retiring as the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, he served on the Governing Council of the Exchange as well as on the Board of the Nigeria Security Printing and Minting Company Plc. 

A former President of the Harvard Business School Association of Nigeria, Apostle Alile is a fellow of  the Institute of Directors, the Nigerian Institute of Management as well as the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers. 

He is a leading investment analyst who has made valuable contributions to national economic growth and public policy formulation. He was for 12 years a Trustee and Treasurer of the Nigeria Olympic Committee. 

Mrs. Olubunmi Olowude


A Laboratory Scientist by profession, Mrs. Olowude is an alumna of the School of Medical Laboratory Technology, College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos.


She had a distinguished career at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) where she rose to the position of Assistant Chief Medical Laboratory Technologist and retired as Head of the Medical Laboratory Department. She is Member, Institute of Medical Laboratory Technologists.

Now a businesswoman, Mrs. Olowude is on the Board of Directors of several companies.

Alhaji Yayale Ahmed, CFR


Alhaji Ahmed is an accomplished public administrator who has served meritoriously in top government positions. He has a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and a Master's Degree in Public Administration, both from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.


He also has honorary Doctorate Degrees in Law and of Letters awarded by the University of Abuja and Bayero University, Kano respectively. He was appointed Head of Service of the Federation in 2000, Defence Minister in 2007 and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation in 2008. 

Prof. Oladapo Afolabi, CFR


Prof. Afolabi attended the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife. He has a Bachelor of Science and Master’s degrees in Biochemistry as well as a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Applied Chemistry.

He won a fellowship at Howard University, Washington, United States, as an International Atomic Energy Agency Fellow in 1983. He played a major role in organising the first Ecological Summit in 1988, which led to the creation of the Federal Ministry of Environment.

He had a flourishing career in the civil service, where he rose to become the Head of Service in 2010.

Mr. Sina Elusakin
Deputy Managing Director


A seasoned insurance professional with sharp analytical skills and entrepreneurial drive, Mr. Elusakin holds a Bachelor of Science in Statistics and a Master of Business Administration in Banking and Finance.  


He is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria and a member of the Energy Institute, London. Mr. Elusakin is renowned for his experience and expertise in Oil and Gas underwriting.


Before he became  Deputy Managing Director, he was the Executive Director in charge of Special Risks. He has attended numerous local and international courses, seminars and conferences.

Mr. Yinka Obalade

Mr. Obalade is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).  He is an accomplished banker with more than 20 years’ experience. He retired from the banking sector in 2005 as the Chief Executive of Global Bank Limited and joined IGI.


As the Executive Director, Finance, Accounts and Investment, he oversees the accounts, finance and investments of the IGI Group. He also sits on the boards of several companies.

Mr. Kenneth Aigbinode


Mr. Aigbinode’s financial sector experience spans 40 years having commenced his banking career with Barclays Bank Plc in 1975. He later joined Nigerian-American Merchant Bank, where he worked for 10 years including a six-month credit internship in Boston USA with the bank's affiliate, Bank of Boston. He was instrumental to the repositioning of Owena Bank Nigeria Plc where he established the corporate banking division as a Deputy General Manager. He moved to Fidelity Bank Plc between 1998 and 2003 and left as the Acting Managing Director, after successfully leading the bank’s transformation from merchant to commercial banking.


He joined New Nigeria Bank Plc in 2004 as an Executive Director responsible for business development until early 2005. The Central Bank of Nigeria engaged him on national service later in 2005 as part of an interim management board to oversee the affairs of Assurance Bank Plc towards an orderly liquidation. Since 2005, Mr. Aigbinode has been consulting in telecommunications, finance, and business strategy after an active banking career which covered the entire spectrum of banking. He joined IGI in 2011 to realign the Group’s telecommunications portfolio before his current role as Executive Director in charge of Business Strategy and Risk Management.


Mr. Aigbinode graduated from the Institute of Management and Technology with a Higher National Diploma in Banking and holds an M.Sc. in Risk Management from New York University’s Stern School of Business. He is also an alumnus of Manchester Business School’s Executive Management Course. He regularly consults on Risk, Structured Finance, and Strategy. He is on the Editorial Board of Credit Risk Deskmate Journal. He is a Director of Association of Licensed Telecom Operators of Nigeria. He also serves on the Board of Sonarwa General Insurance Limited, Rwanda. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria as well as Global Association of Risk Professionals. He is widely travelled and is married with children.

Mrs. Foluso Gbadamosi


Mrs. Gbadamosi is an Information Technology (IT) and Operations professional with over 13 years experience in telecommunications, IT and the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FCMG) industries. She began her IT career with Eli Lilly & Company, an American global pharmaceutical company, before moving to EMW, Inc. an American telecommunications company. She returned to Nigeria in 2006 and joined Procter & Gamble as Client & Site Services Manager. She later moved to Monarch Communications Limited where, as Director of Operations, she restructured the organization and later prepared it for the sale of its 3.5GHz spectrum to Swift Networks Limited. In 2015, she joined IGI as Executive Director in charge of Human Resources, Administration & Information Communications Technology.


Mrs. Gbadamosi holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master of Science in Management Information Systems from George Washington University. She is an alumnus of the Yale CEO College, a WimBoard fellow and holds a Board Ready Certificate from the IE Business School. She is married with children.
